One of the potential dangers of burying a pool in the ground is the ground pressure pushing the side walls in and they collapse on someone.
How many patio blocks do I need to go
under the uprights? Simply Add the
number of uprights in the pool package and divide it in half because
you can take a standard 12" x 12" x 1" patio block
and have it cut in half. (Hint:
You can usually have the patio blocks cut at the supply store.)

Do I have to use sand?
No, not exactly. The reason you use sand in the pool bottom is because the liner manufacturers require a non-abrasive material between the liner and the ground. A product called Happy Bottom is a great substitute for Sand.
