CaliMar Coronado Resin Hybrid Above Ground Pools (54" Wall): what makes them different
CaliMar Coronado Resin Hybrid Above Ground Pools (54" Wall): what makes them different

If you want an above-ground pool that looks premium, feels more substantial than entry-level kits, and is engineered to hold up year after year, the CaliMar Coronado series is built for exactly that. It’s a resin hybrid design—pairing steel strength where you want rigidity with resin components where you want corrosion resistance and comfort—wrapped in a clean earth tone look that blends into most backyards. Quick snapshot

  • Type: Resin hybrid above-ground pool
  • Wall height: 54" for deeper water and a more “inground-like” swim feel
  • Structure: True 8" resin top rails + 7" uprights/verticals
  • Warranty (pool): 8-year full + 22-year prorated (see product listing for exact terms)
  • Made in the USA: Manufactured by HII (Hollowell Industries Inc.)

1) Why “resin hybrid” matters (in real backyard terms)

“Resin hybrid” is a practical middle ground. You still get steel’s structural strength (critical for the wall and frame system),while resin components can improve long-term cosmetics and comfort at common touch points.

One Coronado talking point you’ll see often: the top rails are a true 8" measured edge-to-edge, not measured “around the curve.”  The practical takeaway: you’re buying into a heavier-duty rail system.

2) Size and shape options

The Coronado lineup is designed to fit everything from tight spaces to “full backyard resort.”

Rounds (space-efficient + classic)

Starting at 8' round and running up through 33' round.

Ovals (better swim lane + “pool party” layout)

Oval sizes range from compact layouts like 8'×12' which is perfect for super small backyard spaces, all the way up through larger family footprints like the 21'×41'.

3) Packages, upgrades, and “walk-in step” options

Most Coronado kits are sold as packages (Standard, with upgrade paths like Savings & Premier package.   One package builds upon the other. (For the Most part)  If you want easier entry/exit and a more integrated look, Coronado also offers configurations designed around an in-wall step.

  • Walk-in steps can feel more like an in ground entry
  • Designed for easier entry/exit than a standard ladder
  • Available on select Coronado kits and sizes

4) Installation: the stuff that actually determines how the pool performs

Above-ground pool longevity is often less about the wall pattern and more about base prep, level, and support.

The Non-Negotiables (base + blocks + sand + cove)

  • The bottom track must sit on solid ground (not on fill/sand)
  • Use patio blocks under each bottom plate; recess them level with grade (within about 3/4" level across blocks)
  • After the wall is set, finish with about a 2" level sand bed inside the pool perimeter
  • Build or install a manufactured cove (about 6" up and 6" out minimum) to protect the liner transition

Electrical + equipment placement (don’t wing this)

  • Check local permit/code requirements
  • Use a qualified electrician and GFCI protected power
  • No extension cords
  • Keep pump/filter components at least 5 feet from the pool
  • Do not install pump/filter on a deck at/near water level where it could fall into the pool

5) Safety, ladders, and fencing: plan it before delivery day

Even if your pool wall can function as a barrier in some contexts, access points (ladders/steps) are the “make or break” detail. Local codes and HOAs can still require fencing regardless of wall height—so plan for a removable/lockable ladder, fenced access,or full perimeter fencing as needed.

6) Warranty and water chemistry: read this before you buy a salt system

The Standard Coronado is not saltwater friendly but a Saltwater Friendly Coronado is available.  Warranty positioning is one of the Coronado’s biggest selling points (pool warranty + filter system warranty + liner warranty are emphasized on ProPools listings). Important: CaliMar’s Standard Coronado page states that the use of saltwater chlorination systems voids the product warranty. Confirm the warranty terms for your exact kit before installing a salt system on any above ground pool.

Who the Coronado is best for

  • Buyers who want a deeper-feeling 54" wall above-ground pool
  • Families who value heavier-duty rails/uprights and long-term structure
  • Homeowners who like the idea of a walk-in step (on select kits)
